Jet 'hard lands' at London airport

Smoke filled the cabin as British Airways flight 8456 landed at London City Airport on Friday night, its front wheel coming off as the plane hit the ground in a so-called 'hard landing'.

There's been a plethora of aircraft accidents in the last few months! It must raise issues over the maitenance of these aircraft for so many to suddenly fail all at once!

Red Dwarf Marathon pt1

I've decided to rewatch all the Red Dwarfs before the news eps air in Easter. Last night I watched 4 eps of RDI :)

The End - 5/10 It sets everything up, establishes the characters and the situation of Dave Lister being the last known human in the universe along with Rimmer, Cat and Holly to keep him company (and sane).

Future Echoes - 6/10 it adds to the back story somewhat, saying more about the characters and also adds a possible future for Dave when he sees himself as a very old man still living on the ship.

Balance of Power - 7/10 it adds even more about the characters and is fuelled by Lister's dislike of Rimmer, there's also a brief flashback scene where we see the characters at a disco (very possibly George MacIntyre's welcome back disco) and Rimmer's brief sex change to impersonate Kochanski takes a very bizarre turn when he's left with one of her breasts!

Waiting for God - 4/10 more of a Cat episode I just don't think it all quite works somehow. It's very much a resolution of Lister as Cloister from the first episode and no-more is said about it later. The old Cat Priest is very well acted though (even though he didn't have a clue what was going on when he was filming his scenes!)

The Sarah Jane Red Nose Day Adventure

Legendary comedian, Ronnie Corbett, has been confirmed as a guest star for a special Red Nose Day version of the highly acclaimed The Sarah Jane Adventures. BBC Wales are recording a one-off mini adventure to air on Comic Relief - Funny for Money airing on Friday 13 March BBC1 from 7pm. The top rating children's drama comes from the makers of Doctor Who and stars Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith. Executive Producer Russell T Davies said, "It's an honour to get involved with Red Nose Day, and with Ronnie Corbett, K-9 and an old enemy's return, we can promise Sarah Jane Smith's most extraordinary adventure yet!" The BAFTA-nominated series sees Sarah Jane and the gang getting caught in a mysterious world of chases, danger, and monsters from outer space. The show has a huge following in its teatime slot on BBC One and the CBBC channel and the BBC Wales team are delighted to be contributing to Red Nose Day for a one-off mini adventure. Written by Gareth Roberts and Clayton Hickman it also stars Tommy Knight, Daniel Anthony and Anjli Mohindra. A third series of The Sarah Jane Adventures will go into production shortly. Current Doctor Who lead David Tennant will be presenting on the Night of TV.

Fantastic news! I really doubt they could have done a Torchwood story justice and Doctor Who is filming in Dubai for the Easter special so they can't afford the time off for a story so Liz Sladen and co are the perfect choice :)

the alphabet is incomplete!

The thorn , Þ þ , is one of the most fascinating of letters and, in a form unrecognisable to the untrained eye, is still used to convey 'olde-worlde' charm. Twee shop fronts may bear the legend 'Ye Olde Shoppe' in an attempt to recreate a feeling of the medieval, and inevitably the word spelled as 'Ye' will be pronounced by all as 'Yee'. However, 'Ye Olde Shoppe' ought actually to be pronounced as 'The Old Shoppe', because the 'Y' derives from a printed form of the thorn.

Þrúðr (Throd - the daughter of Thor in Norse mythology) will be pleased if we can all spell her name right again...

No Kochanski for Dave?

It looks like they're not bringing Kristine Kochanski back for the forthcoming Red Dwarf specials (either of her) which is a shame because she was so good in the series as she added an extra dimension to the stories, and especially given the cliffhanger situation at the end of RD VIII...

Whobai

The BBC has confirmed that part of the forthcoming Doctor Who Easter special will be filmed in Dubai.

This more than a week after they went there to film!

Home Office Boss in fiddle?

Jacqui Smith, the Home Secretary, was under fire last week for claiming thousands of pounds of Commons expenses for her family house by listing it as her ‘second home’, while effectively lodging with her sister. Ms Smith is able to claim the maximum £24,006 a year in taxpayer funded allowances for her £300,000 property in the West Midlands because she lists her ‘main home’ as a London property owned by her sister, where she says she spends the bulk of her time. Campaigners told the Mail on Sunday that her claims, of £116,000 over several years, were “morally questionable”. The Home Secretary insisted she had done nothing wrong and her expenses claims were in line with Commons regulations. “The Home Secretary has always abided fully with Parliament’s clear rules on expenses and has long-standing written approval from the Parliamentary Fees office for any agreed expenses,” a spokesperson said.

Another labour party sleeze scandal, wether she's innocent or guilty it doesn't look good when she's the de facto head of the police, it looks bad...

snow

well it was fun watching it today and a lot of people at work went home early but I couldn't be bothered (I'm a lazy mare sometimes) plus it's cheaper to stay there where they pay to keep me warm ;)

TG

It was never enough to try and make do with just staving it off, my sexuality can't be contained no matter now many skirts and dresses I wear it's not enough just to look like a woman I am one mentally, emotionally and spiritually, now the outside needs to reflect the real me too, I can't hide anymore, not even from myself, I thought I could cope just paying lipservice to my issues, sort of dressing en femme as an antidote to my need to be myself and my fear of coming out and transitioning, where do i go from here? I dunno, maybe I'll havemy vagina this time next year or maybe much longer, the issue is that it's not somethign never to be considered but can I do it, can I have the strength of a woman to be the real me outside where everyone can see the real me, no longer will I be able to hide behind a well-worn lie, it's scary to consider it and exciting too. First things first though I seriously need to diet, I'm more than ten stone over weight! I need to get fit and healthy so my curvz will stand out even more, my current teeny C cups look like flabby pecs if I don't wear a bra. Speaking of bra's I need to get myself a new one but I think I'll leave it and see how much weight I loose before summer comes, then measure up and see how my boobs have coped with my weight loss...

Obama "must act now" on climate

The planet will be in "huge trouble" unless Barack Obama makes strides in tackling climate change, says a leading scientist. Prof James McCarthy spoke on the eve of the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), which he heads.

Clinton acted, then his successor undid everything, but is it too late for Obama to redo the right thing?

Russian and US satellites collide

US and Russian communications satellites have collided in space in the first such reported mishap.

We need Captain Kirk to sort it out and fix Nomad and V'Ger :) I think everyone's surprised that this hasn't happened before now though....

Batwoman Returns!

Batwoman is to make her comic comeback as an openly gay superhero. DC Comics writer Greg Rucka told Comic Book Resources she was "a lesbian socialite by night and a crime-fighter by later in the night". Her appearance coincides with a battle in Gotham City to take over Batman's cowl after he was seemingly killed off in November. Batwoman and her alter ego, Kath Kane, will appear in at least 12 issues of Detective Comics from June. "We've been waiting to unlock her - it's long overdue," Rucka said. "Yes, she's a lesbian. She's also a redhead. It is an element of her character. It is not her character. If people are going to have problems with it, that's their issue. That's certainly not mine," he added. Rucka admitted the hero's sexuality would cause come controversy saying: "I think there is going to be some media - I can't control it. "You've got to remember, Wonder Woman got a haircut and that became news. So it will be what it is. Our job is to make the best issues of Detective that we can." Batwoman was originally introduced to the DC comic world in 1956 as a love interest for Batman and has made cameo appearances in the comic series. She was first outed by her creators in 2006 as a former lover of Gotham City police detective Renee Montoya and her elevation to alpha superhero has been celebrated by gay rights groups. The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation praised DC for their efforts to diversify their characters.

Anything that expunges the nightmare of Batman and Robin is welcome to most Bat-Fans :) Now if they can avoid the usual Batgirl/Catwoman fan slash fic cliches then Batwoman might just work as a believable lesbian heroine :)

Film emerges of 'baffling' UFO

Video footage has emerged of a "cylinder-shaped object" that stunned holidaymakers as it hovered over the coast above a seaside resort.

this is a case for Mulder & Scully!

Mother and boyfriend abused and killed tot

A mother and her boyfriend have been jailed for killing a toddler who sustained more than 100 injuries during months of abuse.

This is just pure evil, it needs to be excised from humanity, those responsible should suffer the same as the one they tortured to death.

Pink Knickers in Protest!

Indians outraged at an attack on women for drinking in a bar have gathered together to send a provocative gift of underwear to right-wing activists. More than 5,000 people, including men, have joined the Facebook group, which calls itself the Consortium of Pub-going, Loose and Forward Women. The group says it will give the pink underwear to Sri Ram Sena (Army of Lord Ram) on Valentine's Day on Saturday.

This is an evil that must be fought and what better way to fight rigid male inflexibility than confronting it with soft seductive female sexuality? It's too late for my pink knickers to arrive there now but I'll be wearing them on Saturday in support the rights of women to have fun :)

all quiet here...

...as I'm getting ready for another week of work...no doubt it'll all kick off when I don't know about...whatever it is...it's always the way, I'm the last to hear about anything and everything...still at least then I can't get blamed for stuff I didn't do or know about, in theory, maybe, do I have a persecution complex as well as paranoia?

Woman Power!

A 56-year-old American athlete has become the first woman on record to swim the Atlantic.

That's such great news, I couldn't even swim more than a couple of miles! I prefer to sunbathe in a bikini.

still winter

There's been a light sprinkling of snow overnight and it's cold inside too. Luckily I don't have to go to work today :)
